The challenge
Making money available to employees as fast as possible
Hexeko provides companies with value-added money that comes with specific benefits and tax exemptions. To provide this service, Hexeko operates two main payment flows:
- Incoming payments: Collecting funds via direct debit or bank transfers made by its customers
- Outgoing payments: Making funds available to employees on their cards by making payments to Hexeko’s Stripe accounts.
These flows represent tens of millions of euros processed per year and are the core value Hexeko provides to its customers.
To support the growth of both Hexeko and Up Group’s activities, including the digitalisation of Up Group’s paper voucher-based activity, Hexeko needed to make this core workflow and its supporting infrastructure more robust.

The solution
Optimising payments on top of existing systems and processes

When searching for a solution, Hexeko evaluated various treasury management systems, but none satisfied its automation needs. Hexeko had also considered open banking solutions for collecting payments, but the strong authentication required from customers would have introduced too much friction and negatively impacted the user experience.
That's when the Hexeko team decided to implement Mambu Payments to solve its automation needs while keeping its current bank BNP Paribas and providing a frictionless customer experience.
Mambu Payments is connected to Hexeko’s BNP Paribas accounts in France and Belgium, and Hexeko’s internal systems now directly integrate with Mambu Payments via API. Mambu Payments is also connected to Stripe and many other solutions through these internal systems.
“Even without considering our planned growth, the situation was already critical. The Hexeko team member in charge of these payments had no time left for their treasury tasks, and we had to hire contractors to support us in the peak weeks. We couldn’t have managed our upcoming growth without Mambu Payments.”
- Guillaume Dasnoy, CFO at Hexeko
The result
Saving 120 days per year on payment operations
Before the successful integration of Mambu Payments, manually reconciling incoming payments took Hexeko’s team 10 days per month, concentrated at the beginning and end of the month when companies were topping up their accounts for their employees.
Now through Mambu Payments, they achieved significant time savings. By automating these workflows with Mambu Payments, Hexeko saved 120 days per year on payment operations and reduced payment and reconciliation errors.
Next on Hexeko's payments roadmap is to leverage BNP Paribas through its Mambu Payments integration for direct debits. Hexeko also plans to use Mambu Payments to reimburse employees for benefits they have paid for themselves automatically.

“The implementation of Mambu Payments has been straightforward, requiring only part of one developer’s three-week sprint. Before we could allocate our developer to the implementation, we’ve been able to start automating most of our workflows by importing CSV files through the Mambu Payments dashboard.”
- Guillaume Dasnoy, CFO at Hexeko
