Launched in 2025, BUUT is the new full-service digital bank from the creators of Tikkie – a free and very popular Dutch mobile payment app from ABN AMRO Bank that lets users send and receive money quickly and easily.
Like Tikkie, BUUT is part of ABN AMRO. With BUUT, teenagers can use handy pots to save up money and make payments easily. The app is designed specially for a new generation – simple, visual, user-friendly and interactive. As part of ABN AMRO, BUUT is covered by the Dutch Deposit Guarantee Scheme and combines the reliability of a large bank with the fresh energy and innovative power of Tikkie.
The opportunity
Seizing the market gap for youth banking
ABN AMRO saw a growing need for a banking experience designed specifically for younger —Gen Z and Gen Alpha, with a digital-first approach, simple UX, and meaningful parental oversight.
The bank aimed to build something fast, scalable and innovative, but grounded in the safety and reliability of its regulated banking structure.

The solution
Cloud-native tech to move fast and at scale
ABN AMRO has a strong track record of digital innovation, having launched successful ventures like business lender New10 in 2016, which also runs on Mambu’s composable banking platform.
Building on that experience, the bank kicked off the BUUT project in 2024 with the goal of bringing a full-service digital bank for young people to market quickly and securely.
To support this, ABN AMRO once again turned to Mambu’s cloud-native, composable banking platform to provide several core banking services that enable the BUUT IBAN administration underlying the payment and savings accounts.
